🥊 GO THE DISTANCE Cinema Therapy for the Rock Steady Boxing Community

Ready to step into the storytelling ring?

We’re inviting you—Rock Steady Boxers, care partners, family members, and coaches—to join a groundbreaking new course that blends the power of Rocky with the strength of the Rock Steady community.

Introducing: “Go the Distance”

A 16-week online Cinema Therapy course that uses the original Rocky film (1976) and the Hero’s Journey framework to help you reflect on, shape, and share your personal story of resilience.

Led by Dr. Robert Cochrane, founder of the nonprofit Yes, And…eXercise! An award-winning filmmaker and expert in storytelling and Parkinson’s psychosocial care, this course is designed specifically for those who fight back—just like Rocky and just like YOU.

💥 Why Cinema Therapy?

Films help us see our lives through a new lens. Rocky isn’t just about boxing—it’s about facing long odds, getting knocked down, and finding the strength to stand back up. That’s the journey we’ll explore together.

💪 Why Rock Steady Boxing?Because you already know what it means to fight. This course builds on that spirit and gives you the tools to tell your own comeback story—one that will inspire others and remind you just how far you’ve come.

📅 Course Details:

  • Length: 16 weeks, one 90-minute session per week (date & time TBD)

  • Location: Online via Zoom (easy access from anywhere)

  • Audience: RSB participants, care partners, family members, and coaches

  • Activities: Weekly film clips from Rocky, inspirational music and movement, improvisation, guided creative writing, group discussion, and Hero’s Journey storytelling exercises.

  • Cost: $2000 per participant

  • Result: An original, creative short story you will write and contribute to a Rock Steady Boxing anthology.

  • Not a writer? Let me ask you: were you a boxer when you started Rock Steady? Probably not. We’ll help you see yourself differently and teach you how to use powerful tools like Chat GPT as an assistant to bring forth the story within you that’s waiting to be told.

👊 Join Us. Your Story Matters.Whether you’re in the ring, in the corner, or cheering from the crowd—your experience has power to transform the way Parkinson’s is understood, researched and, ultimately, defeated. Let’s turn your power into a story that heals, inspires, and connects.

Spots are limited. Visit www.yesandexercise.org/rockysb to sign up today.
